We love the organic quality of fine silver!

Silver Swell jewelry is handmade and uniquely designed by Marla and Michele Baer. We do reproduce some of our favorites but each one will be slightly different because they are hand crafted. Everything is made here in South Florida. The materials we use vary and any one piece may contain one, or combinations of Fine Silver, Sterling Silver, Copper, Brass, Leather, Clay, Shells and other interesting elements. Our pendants are all Fine Silver.

Fine Silver Reclaimed & Recycled!

Fine Silver is 99% percent silver and is considered technically pure. Fine Silver is used in bullion bars, is also known as “three nines fine” or Ag 999. Fine silver does not contain copper, which is a component of sterling silver. Coloration in a piece of fine silver jewelry has been added deliberately and is part of the design.

PMC was developed in the early 1990s in Japan by metallurgist Dr. A. Morikawa. The material consists of extremely fine precious metal powder in a colloidal suspension, which burns off on firing. PMC was developed by using recycled and reclaimed silver collected from x-ray and film plate processing. Our pieces are kiln fired from 1450-1600 degrees to form pure silver nuggets. We color and roughly polish the silver to keep it’s organic character.

Taking Care of Your Silver

There are many silver cleaning products available, but tarnish on silver jewelry can be removed simply by washing your silver jewelry with warm water containing a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid such as Dawn, Ivory or Simple Green. Do this often and your silver jewelry will never develop the dark tarnish that is hard to remove.

Wash with diluted mild dishwashing liquid. Rinse thoroughly. Dry with cotton. Lay flat to air dry overnight. Wrap in jeweler’s anti-tarnish tissue. Store in its own airtight plastic bag. Silver jewelry can be immersed in water for cleaning if there are no soft gemstones, pearls, crystals or silk thread in the piece. Same advice as with all other jewelry: avoid getting any chemicals, including perfume, hairspray, deodorant spray, body lotion, acetone, bleach, or turpentine, onto your silver jewelry. Store your silver jewelry carefully so it needs less cleaning and doesn’t get scratched.
