Welcome!

The sea inspires us, we’re passionate about it. We’re so blessed to live in South Florida by the ocean. Marla is my friend, she is my youngest son’s wife and the mother of my two beautiful grand-daughters Nikki and Riley.

Our designs are imperfect, we embrace an ancient concept “Wabi-sabi”. Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, asperity, simplicity, modesty, intimacy, and suggest a natural process. We hope everything here reminds you of this beautiful planet with an emphasis on the sea!

With love & thanks – Michele

I too, love living in South Florida. I moved from Guatemala to South Florida when I married my awesome husband 1n 2002. Together we have two beautiful girls Nikki and Riley, and for me, life feels like one long VACATION at the beach! I’m also happy to be able to work with Michele who has more creative ideas than she will ever be able to produce in her lifetime! Being able to work with my family is an amazing blessing.

Silver Swell enables us to turn our creative passion into a “one of a kind” collection of silver jewelry that we love! We hand-make each of these pieces and we feel they really express our love for nature and the ocean. We are very excited about what we do and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Best to you – Marla

What is this “Wabi Sabi” that Michele was talking about:

Wabi-Sabi seeks harmony in the spiritual wealth of beauty and in the natural simplicity of each individual object: simplicity is the key.

Profoundly influenced by the Buddhist zen , the ancient discipline which flourished around the XVI century aims to merge the concept of “wabi” – referring to everything that is alive, fresh and simple – with the concept of “sabi”, objects whose beauty lasts over time. The result is a definition of beauty which is not common in our culture and history, since it emphasises the unpredictable, the flawed and the incomplete. In Wabi-Sabi, the aim is to strike a delicate balance between possessing an object and maintaining a certain distance from it.

Silver as an Investment … your silver jewelry will go up in value!

Investment has been a core element of the silver market since its very beginning.  For thousands of years investors stored a portion of their wealth in this white metal via such vehicles as ornamentals and jewelry.  In fact many historians believe this metal was used in the oldest form of coinage. With silver as money, investors have been able to use physical coins as means to store their wealth.  From the drachmas used by the ancient Greeks to the famous Spanish pieces of eight, silver coins are an integral part of this metal’s precious lineage.

Silver is a Precious Metal

Although silver is relatively scarce, it is the most plentiful and least expensive of the precious metals.

Precious metals are valued for their beauty and relative scarcity in the Earth’s crust, and their superior properties. They are very malleable, highly resistant to corrosion, superior reflectors of light and are unsurpassed as conductors of heat and electricity.

Besides signifying status and wealth, silver has been one of the most romantic and sought after of all the precious metals. From the beginning of time people have been enthralled by its beauty and drawn to remote areas of the world in search of this white, reflective metal.

Silver has often been surrounded by mystery. The Incas of Peru called it “the tears of the moon” because they were awed by silver’s strange gleam, and the Chinese believed that a silver locket hung around a child’s neck would ward off evil spirits.
